New US travel restrictions
The combination of January weather and cheap airfares meant that swapping freezing Manchester for sunny Florida for a couple of weeks is an absolute ‘no brainer’; particularly since my dad lives in Sarasota so I have an instant holiday home swap.
However, the USA has recently introduced new travel restrictions – so if you are planning a trip across the Pond, make sure you apply for an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorisation) online before you buy your tickets.
I subscribe to the Martyn Lewis site www.moneysavingexpert.com and this thread tells you all about the new regulations: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=846763 (The site is also great for finding good airline deals).
You can visit the ESTA site direct to apply https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov/esta/esta.html It only takes 5 minutes and is well worth it – just in case you get tired of the cold weather too and decide to exchange or swap your holiday home for the good ole U S of A!
