February sunshine in the real Spain
This year we decided to go to Du Quesa on the Costa Del Sol, in between Estopona and Gibraltar. I found a fantastic 3 bedroomed apartment on your web site and the owners, Mr & Mrs Graham, were really helpful. We collected our hire car and Malaga airport and on the drive to Du Quesa stopped at a traditional Spanish village to buy some beautifully fresh fruit and salad that had only been picked the day before.
The February sun was lovely and warm, nice t-shirt weather, though we needed a brolly at times. Gibraltar was only 20 minutes away and tax free so there were lots of Sterling bargains! We strolled around the impressive marina with its luxurious yachts but also meandered down the old narrow streets, finding a small old synagogue, a beautiful ornate church and a traditional market. There are still lots of reminders of Britain in Gibraltar: British ‘bobbies’, traffic lights and even red buses. The famous apes are very friendly, with the young being especially cheeky, jumping on and off shoulders, stealing food and hats.
We have very fond memories of our week in and around Du Quesa, seeing the REAL Spain: orange and lemon groves, vine and olive trees; open air cafes and bars with locals laughing, chatting and loudly debating. And we’ll certainly be returning in the future.
