The Minack Theatre, Penzance, Cornwall
We’re off to Cornwall next week (keeping fingers and everything else tightly crossed that it stays fine!) One place we definitely want to go to is the Minack Theatre near Penzance – it’s a fantastic open air theatre on the cliffs with crashing seas below as a backdrop to the stage.
There’s a full summer programme with a choice of The Crucible or Amadeus over the next couple of weeks but it stages all types of shows – last time I went, a few years ago, it was to see an evening performance of The Wind In The Willows. Brilliant fun but you need to wrap up warmly because it does get chilly on in the evening.
The Minack is also open to visitors during the day – there’s an exhibition about the lady who founded the theatre, Rowena Cade, as well as a teashop, the ubiquitous gift shop and, of course, fantastic views. I bet an afternoon show will be lovely – and, if the sun is shining, the theatre should be a good little sun trap to catch a few rays. If you’re travelling to Cornwall, it’s definitely worth a look.
